Tents and boatsAlthough there are a number of DOC sites available in the sounds, we may well end up sleeping on board. So a boat tent will greatly improve options - they are not too difficult to make using a boat cover, your wife’s sewing machine and the invaluable duck tape.
TendersA small sit on kayak can be extremely useful - just because you moored 10 feet from the shore does not mean you can get to it. They are easy to tow, indestructible and great fun!
An alternative is a blow up canoe or even your thumb and hope! Food and waterAs you can take a lot of gear on board, the opportunities for meals are far greater than when backpacking. Fresh vegetables, tins, bottles of wine are easy to stash it behind a bulkhead. A chilly bin filled with pre frozen food will keep for a few days.
One trip I had a supply of Christmas cakes that were just small enough to fit inside a hatch cover - great comfort food as the weather was terrible!. Loos and PoosBucket and chuck-it for number 2’s would be frowned on. A simple trenching tool would do the job when DOC thunderbox not available.
Loo paper is useful too! And your bailer is good for discrete number 1’s. |
